My Grandparents War - Mark Rylance.

4 x 60’ for Channel 4 (PBS and Netflix)

Actor and peace campaigner Mark Rylance explores the extraordinary World War II story of his grandfather Osmond Skinner, who spent almost four years as a Japanese prisoner of war.

As the world commemorates 80 years since the outbreak of World War Two, this new series sees leading Hollywood actors undertake fascinating journeys into their family’s past as they re-trace their grandparents’ footsteps.

In each authored film, the actors travel the globe to meet the last survivors, speak to descendants with a shared history and talk to people from all sides of the conflict.  Confronting the terrors their families faced and the threats they encountered, they uncover the sacrifices all our grandparents made.

My Grandparents’ War delivers a compelling biographical insight into some of the Britain’s leading actors and is a moving reminder of how bravery, love and self-sacrifice prevailed in the face of tragedy.
